122 Church Street Liverpool Nova Scotia

Near tennis court and historic building & lot with provincial designation

Fantastic info provided by this seller, makes this central property well worth a look:

“This part of the Region of Queens Municipality provides great beauty; miles of beaches awaits your arrival, four seasons (with the mildest of Maritime winters) amid recreational amenities to suit everyone. Liverpool is a mere hour and a half from Halifax and can be reached by traveling the main highway #103, or for a much more leisurely drive along the coastline on the #3 highway, best known as the Lighthouse Route. It’s Regional Hospital has numerous doctors on staff, several dentists are in the town and there is an optometrist’s office. Some consider Liverpool to be the undiscovered gem of the South Shore and noted to be one of Canada‘s best kept secrets.

Maritime history is rich here in Liverpool and one cannot help but be taken back in time as one walks along Main Street, Market Street and Church Street.   Located on Church Street the Rossignol Cultural Centre combines 12 surprising and unusual museums in one. The Guide Sports, Hunting, Fishing and Mi’Kmaq Museum features images and artifacts of early guiding and native life. There are folk art, outhouse and apothecary museums and a re-created English Tea Room. The Wildlife Museum has an 18 foot giraffe, musk ox, polar bear, wolf, caribou and other animals from North America and Africa. Outside there are teepees, an early settler’s cabin, a yurt, a blockhouse and a re-creation of Maud Lewis’ tiny house.  The Liverpool Court House, a landmark Greek Revival temple style building, is also located on Church Street in the centre of Liverpool, NS. ”

South Shore Parades and Festivals

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Recently I went to a “Newcomers” evening in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.  Although living here now well over a decade, and being a first generation Canadian, I’m forever a Come From Away… but that’s OK, as I arrived on the South Shore by choice and not just birth luck!  Check out this professional video of the original landowners before me

So as I was saying, this is my chosen Homeland.  Such is also the case of the talented videographers above, who I met that evening in Liverpool.  My children have the advantage of already being born here.  However, learning how to be a Maritimer is still required!

Attending community events, working in service clubs, and volunteering to keep this rural place special are things that seem worth passing on to our youth.

…My daughter was the youngest “puller” at the local Exhibition, and didn’t weigh-in enough for the final team. ( The perseverance and patience of trying, was a success regardless of the winning or losing).  This is the culture of the South Shore and one worth moving here for.

“Come for the Experience,  Stay for the People”

Ocean-centric activities aren’t the only aspect to Lunenburg/ Queens that deserves mentioning.  Farms that feed our future and lakes that supply our fresh water are amazing assets.  Small businesses have become large over time.

Bridgewater parade
In addition to our resources is the Lifestyle, and one of the most interesting indicators for measuring the South Shore:  how is the level of Humour?  Folks here love a turn of phrase and jovial fun.  Where else would you see a quilt cover for a car body  to advertise a festival

Pine View Farms had to park last year’s car float with petunias growing out of its body.  This year another entry had  a tanker truck painted pink!

Yes, we’re an ‘understated’ parade of neighbours and lots of firetrucks — not just pom poms and loud music floats.   And then there’s the final parade entry (and no, it’s not Santa).

buggy ride74 Old Blue Rocks Road, Garden Lots

Trot in Time started in 1996, with an old carriage in the owner’s front yard; basically a lawn ornament. One day a local senior suggested a horse be borrowed to take him for a ride in that buggy. After a good measure of work, including a full refit of the 1888-built cart by shipwright Lloyd Lantz, he got his ride.

The name Trot in Time came from a  elementary student contest won by then third grader, Claire Coulter.  Claire got a pizza party with her friends, in thanks for her great idea. The tour with Trot in Time is like stepping back in time complete with a real wooden carriage – a trot in time!

trot in time horsebuggy ride

The first horse came from Gregg and Jenny Ernst  who live near Lunenburg.  Jenny had been doing wagon rides with her horse, Cindy, but with ten children it was getting too hard to manage that business. And so Cindy became Trot in Time‘s first steed. She retired in 2000 and laid down for a final rest in 2003. Please visit her beautiful memorial page.

In 2000 the owner of Trot in Time was able to buy a property, and restore the barn and an old Cape house, only 300 feet outside the Lunenburg town limits. From there, as the saying goes, it’s all history: Cindy and he hit the streets for buggy rides the next two years.

In the third year a horse called Bob was purchased. The fourth year a replica carriage was added… By the ninth year it was three carriages! Today they have six horses, four carriages, six drivers, a ranch hand, a wagon house, and an ever expanding pasture.

Trot in Time cares a great deal about their horses and invite visitors to schedule a visit ( to the Exclusively listed hobby farm if they’d like to see how nice the animals live:  74 Old Blue Rocks Road, Garden Lots, Lunenburg County, NS, CANADA.

Bridgewater Riverfront Revitalized

king st court

Beside future walking ramp

You need to come see  the redesigned improvements to King Street Court Park. It is now more visible, accessible and inviting!

Floating viewing platform

A Community Celebration on October 2nd, 2010 had participants partying despite the drizzly morning.  (Volunteerism and economic revitalization of the riverfront were the reasons for the entertainment).

For once the street was blocked off not for construction, but for the enjoyment of the public.  More and more festivals and even weddings, will be happening in the park in the future.

"Naming the Twins"

"Naming the Twins"

There were bands playing, FREE cake, buskers doing professional facepainting and making balloon animals while on stilts.  My favourite part was riding through the farmers market in golf carts and stopping at the Petite River Winery’s hard cider tasting.   Mmmm

Service clubs ran BBQ stands, a ladies kick boxing club performed, and bubbles donated by a local business floated on the breeze.  Prizes ranged from bicycles to coveted gift certificates.

This event was put on by a committee from the Riverfront Renaissance action group of the Bridgewater Development Association.  Many plans and promotional efforts have been carried out in the background.

If you’d like to assist Bridgewater‘s momentum in getting the Lahave River back to being a major draw for enjoyment and business, there is plenty to do.

Check out the following site for details on progress to date and future phases of the economic development plans.  There are also thank yous to the various funders listed there.

Oceanfront Building Lot

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Bee’s Cove

How many times do people search for a fish shed that can be converted to a cottage?

Well, here it is!

oceanfront building lot

There’s calculated space for well and septic, in addition to the 2nd wired outbuilding on site.

Did I mention there’s a wharf too?  Once 100 feet long, it would need a finger float to join to the grandfathered tip. Your own pier for a houseboat or party platform, angled to accommodate the current.

Sensational sunsets, due to southwest orientation of buildings. See fabulous area photos on Google Earth    (44 07 48 N, 64 34 38 W)

Lot Size: 29,300 Sq.ft.

Fish Shed: 30′ x 16′

Outbuilding: 19′ x 20′

Oceanfront +/- 180 feet

Many nostalgic and recent charms are in this  harbourside community . A reading festival and spontaneous fun make the village ideal for lasting enjoyment. It inspires bike rides or long walks past pretty homes and the commercial waterfront.  Slow winding roads like Medway Street, lead to this deeded lane.

Close to Liverpool and Bridgewater amenities, and not isolated like waterfront building lots can sometimes be, out there on the ocean.

Tell your REALTOR(R) to “fill their boots” as a Caper would say… there’s a key onsite for easy showings.

Open to waterfront Trade

63 Acres on Molega Lake OPEN to TRADES – Cottage Country NS OWNER IS OPEN TO OCEAN OR LAKEFRONT COTTAGE OFFERED IN TRADE FOR PAYMENT!photo by owner of acreage on Molega LakeI could gush about how amazing a spot in Cottage Country and practical too, that you don’t have to leave a vehicle on the mainland to feel like you’re on your own private coastal retreat.  Take a scenic water tour of Molega Lake if you want at any time of a delicious day…

The road through Harbour Acres is the best road in Cottage Country I have seen in years.  There are neighbouring oversize lots, a secure gate, and Protective Covenants.  This parcel has Sixty-one continuous acres of mixed forest, a new roadway to an ideal waterview building site, and a nearby two acre island included, all away from water ski boat traffic. Molega Lake is superior for kayaking and canoeing as well!

nova scotia stone outcroppingsbuilding driveway for NS lakefront

This cottage country land opportunity is located 40 minutes from Bridgewater, the hub of the South Shore… or 15 minutes to Greenfield (which has great convenience stores and the stunning Medway River). If heading another half hour to oceanside Liverpool, you might as well stop in Milton on the Mersey River, to get their special spring water.

Or just stay put and enjoy the bounties of nature on your estate property on sizable Molega Lake. Cottage country Nova Scotia at its prime!
